Cherokee is a quarter horse paint, our very first horse. 18 months old when we got him, had sustained spinal cord injury resulting from falling into swimming pool at young age, and being in pool for some hours before being found. First veterinary exam gave opinion that he should be euthanized. Second veterinary exam concurred, but second vet, Tom Johnson D.V.M. also agreed to help us with research treatment protocol out of Alberta, Canada based on nutrition, steroids (intranasal bolus followed by intramuscular injection), and initial pen rest followed by normal ground training. For first several years, treatment precluded riding, but he has now made 100% neurologic recovery and is working as a school horse and therapy horse. Not available for adoption but looking forward to meeting you all.
